Notes: I don't own any of these series or games or whatever. I am poor. This fic is for entertainment and may force you to think and face unpleasant facts. If you can't deal with thought, don't read the fic! Contains yaoi, yuri, and straight groupings. If you can't deal, don't read. For some of you...this is the first thing I have posted and I do apologize. I should post something good...but don't have anything ready as yet. Sorry again. Sorry for the crossposting

I am an idealistic, stupid, young fool. I really believe that human beings can make things right and that love is the answer. Hey, I already said I was stupid. This has something for just about every list. Please read with an open heart and mind. This happened because of all the ridiculous, insane, vicious things that have happened of late and I am sick of it!

"True Freedom"

This ain't coming from no prophet

Author looks up....damn straight! Prophets get hounded, hated, maimed and killed! I'm just an idealist! Really! (runs and hides)

Just an ordinary man

OI! (author peeks out) Look at these babies and say that again (thrusts out her breasts....the singer just smiles and continues)

When I close my eyes I see the way this world shall be

Around the world, tear filled eyes close and dreams take the place of reality.

When we all walk hand in hand

In those dreams, the hate dies. People stop fighting and start talking. Old anger, fear, and stupidity laid aside as everyone comes to see the folly of their actions.

When the last child cries for a crust of bread

Relena hands out food to a long line of people. They are the victims of a recently overthrown government. Those in charge cared only for their power and comfort, leaving the people they were supposed to protect destitute and hungry. The Preventers righted that wrong. Now they just had to heal the wounds caused by such callous disregard for human life.

When the last man dies for just words that he said

Aya and Ken smash in the faces of several protesters as they try to get close to the man they were hired to protect. Neither likes the guy, but they don't believe a person should be killed because he said something. Like Omi told them earlier, it was better to have hate out in the open where it could be ridiculed and everyone could see the foolishness of those who promote it. As a sudden surge in the crowd threatens to overwhelm the young men. Five figures come out of nowhere and push the mass back.

The pair turn to find Youji, Brad, Farfi, Nagi, and Schuldig smiling at them. This is the first time they have worked together since both organizations fell apart. Omi's voice over the mics in their ears lets them know the cops will soon arrive and the job will end. The men nod to each other and go back to work. Their youngest member is right; anger should never be allowed to fester and grow. Words are just words; only what is in a person's heart gives them any strength.

When there's shelter over the poorest head

Blair curses under his breath as yet another splinter skewers a finger. He and Ellison volunteered to help renovate a hotel to provide low cost housing. Outside he can hear the chant of those against this project. The don't want a "bad element" in their neighborhood; absently the young man wonders if they really think the poor want to be around such selfish people. Those who are going to live in this building only want another chance; just a shot to get back on their feet. Why can't people understand? What is so terrible about being poor? When did it become a crime?

His musings are interrupted by a hand on his shoulder. Ellison gently reassures his lover. The older man can't stand to see Blair losing his faith in humanity, but police officers often see the worst society has to offer. It leaves mark on the soul, yet helping build a future for others can erase it. He just wishes others would realize this truth.

We shall be free yeah

Eyes, varying in color, open and they hold no anger or hate. The souls reflected are free from the darkness consuming so many lives.

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin

Cloud and Barrett are walking down a street in Midgar. The neighborhood is run down, but the pair are meeting a community leader in the hopes of making it beautiful again. The big man is pointing out places he once played as a child before moving and wants to see reborn. A group of his childhood friends see the men and confront them. They call Barrett a sell out for being with Cloud. Angrily, the newcomers proclaim it is people like Cloud who have caused the neighborhood to decay.

Glaring, Barrett tells them the only thing that really matters in a person is what is in their heart. Color means nothing. As for the neighborhood, his parents took him away so there was nothing he could do, but they didn't leave. If they want to accuse someone, maybe they should look in the mirror sometime.

And the first thing we look for is the beauty within

Vivi looks at Quina, seeing with his heart, not his eyes. She is everything he'd ever hoped to have. Kind, gentle, loyal, loving. It makes her beautiful in a way few understand. In the years they've been together, he's come to see the wonder hidden in her heart. His friends smile at the "odd" couple and ignore the whispers of those who cannot see beyond the obvious. Such shallow souls have no power of them.

Zoah removes his helmet, staring in the mirror at the scars marring almost every inch of his face. A small hand reaches around his shoulders and a single finger runs down the biggest scar. The huge man turns to find Norris. The smaller man doesn't care about the scars; he loves Zoah for who he is not his looks. Only the other Divas ever could stand seeing his without the metal mask, but Norris kept after him, begging to see and not turning away from what he found.

When the skies and the oceans are clean again

Ares growls as he uses his power to help contain yet another oil spill. In the centuries he's been alive, the God of War has never seen such disregard for nature as in the last century. Don't the fool mortals know that if they poison the world, they poison themselves? If he had things his way these idiots would be charcoal. However, his lover, Joxer, would never forgive him and it really wasn't worth hurting the gentle immortal. Ares'd worked too hard to grant the kind man eternity to spoil it over some greedy corporation. Besides, he was enjoying the peace with Hercules.

Sighing, the God War turned his gaze to shore, briefly watching Joxer and Hercules direct the clean up crews there. Iolaus, Xena, and Gabriel were off trying to nail the business owners legally. It was strange to know all of them ended up eating golden apples, but he couldn't have very well let his new family die. No, it was worth containing his anger to keep them. After all, if the mortal idiots once again were let off by the courts, a little fire destroying all the polluting business would never be laid at his feet. Smiling, Ares went back to work.

Then we shall be free

Across the world, people let go of the past and turn to making the future brighter.

We shall be free

People start seeing each other with their hearts not eyes.

We shall be free

Fear is cast aside for hope and compassion.

Stand straight and walk proud

Everyone is accepted for who they are. Difference are celebrated and valued.

Cause we shall be free

No one is afraid. No one is condemned as a freak. No one is made fun of.

When we're free to love anyone we choose

Angel sneaks into Xander's bedroom. The vampire hates keeping his love a secret, but knows trouble will follow should the others find out. The dark haired young man is waiting for him and for just a little while the troubles of the world. Forgetting the expectations of others, needing only to feel the embrace of the one who truly loves them.

As the night grows older, Angel again asked Xander to return with him to LA. With the curse altered, they can find happiness there. Away from prying eyes and judgmental so called friends. The human just smiles sadly and refuses. Once their love is discovered, neither will have any peace; better to meet when they can and hope that someday everyone will mature enough to accept what they have. As the two men say goodbye, both try to ignore the tears building. Someday, their hearts pray, someday.

When this world is big enough for all different views

Father Philip and Alex are having a heated discuss about the origins of Wicca and the position of the Church regarding the ancient religion. It quickly turns into a shouting match; each believing passionately in their side of the argument. Finally, the pair are standing nose-to-nose, fury written clearly on each set of features.

Nick enters the room and calls them to dinner. The young man doesn't seem concerned at the sight before him. Alex and Philip look at him, nod to each other, and head for the dinning room. As they eat, the former combatants trade jokes and stories about the day. When the meal is done and cleaned up, they once more go back to arguing as their friends shake with laughter. No matter how much they yell, Alex and Philip respect each other enough to let something like a disagreement break up the friendship formed over years. Having different ideas only adds spice to the relationship.

When we all can worship from our own kind of pews

Storm flies into her window. She has spent all day communing with nature; for her, the time is very spiritual. Listening carefully, the sound of Wolverine practicing reaches her. With Bobby at church and Gambit off doing whatever he did Sunday mornings, the fierce man had little to keep him occupied. Goddess only knows what kept three such different people together. Each held different beliefs. So what holds them together?

Perhaps, she mused while brushing her hair, it was the same things that held the team together. Understanding they were all unique and as such would have distinct ways to honor the Creator. Nothing made any one way more valid than another. Yes, that had to be it. Logan, Bobby, and even Remy loved the others enough to grasp the simple truth. There was no one right way to love.

Then we shall be free

A huge crowd is gathered at a public park. Almost everyone is dressed in a different style. More than one language can be heard. However, none of those present appear insulted or concerned.

We shall be free

Children from all cultures play together filling the air with laughter.

We shall be free

The day wears on and no violence breaks out. No harsh words are trading. Instead, true smiles grace lips and eyes. Here all are welcome as long as they do not bring darkness in their hearts and because of that, hope predominates.

Have a little faith

Wufei hesitantly takes Sally's hand, unsure if anyone can forgive what he has done, praying that they can.

Hold out

Johnny Cage stands before the Emperor, bleeding from more than a dozen wounds, barely able to hand onto consciousness. The dark ruler offers to heal him in return for Cage's joining his cause and warming his bed. Johnny sways. Are his friends coming for him or did the Emperor speak the truth about their deaths? Does he have a choice?

And when money talks for the very last time

Bulma glares at an inspector. The man will delay the construction of a much-needed hospital unless certain "fees" are paid. The purple haired woman wants to pound the corrupt jerk into the ground but knows it won't do any good. Nor will a speech educating him as to the importance of this project. Some individuals only care about money.

Slowly, Vegeta, Goku, Trunks, Gohan, and Goten float down from the sky. The men have volunteered to help out and heard the entire conversation. Tapping the official on his shoulder, Vegeta waits for him to turn before going Super Saiyan level three. Goku and the others join in. Pure fury emanates from the glowing fighters. Seconds later, the papers are signed and with a stammered promise to help out any way possible, the jerk runs for his car. Bulma thanks her the Saiyans for their assistance, but wishes it hadn't been needed in the first place.

And nobody walks a step behind

Lemina watches Jean sleep. There was a time when people without magic were considered second-class citizens; not even worthy of the most basic rights. Lemina herself believed it once. Then Hiro, Ronfar, and Jean blew into her life. The magicless woman captured the future leader of Vane's heart and forced her to see the stupidity in thinking anyone was inherently better than anyone else.

Hiro and Ronfar took off with Leo after the last battle and were happily running around the world fighting injustice by day and making out like weasels at night. A small laugh worked its way past her lips and caused her lover to stir. Lemina hugged Jean close, revealing in the ability to do so. With the her help, and the guys, the world would see the value in all people and rejoice in it.

When there's only one race and that's mankind

Zelgadis is once again run out of a town because he looks like a monster. The man tries to hide the hurt, but Lina and Gourry can see it. The sorceress wants to go back and Dragon Slave the entire place. The blond man bides his time and convinces her to do the same.

As each traveler seeks their bedroll that night, Gourry and Lina secretly watch Zel leave the camp. They follow him to find the spellcaster sobbing quietly near a stream. Rushing to him, the pair embrace him. Predictably, the quiet man struggles, telling them they shouldn't love an inhuman creature like him. Neither lets go and they whisper reassurances to calm and ease his battered soul. What matters in is a person's heart not in his face or body. Words and closed minds cannot take away the beauty residing below the physical form. Zelgadis is a human as they. Nothing can change that.

Long into the night, the three sit, thankful to see the truth even if no else does.

Then we shall be free

Relena joins Dorothy for dinner and the two friends discuss the success of her plans to help the starving.

We shall be free

Youji and Brad slip away after the assignment ends. The others can't help but be amused by the pair. They think everyone is fooled.

We shall be free

Blair and Jim make love, not worrying about anything beyond the completeness they feel with each other.

Stand straight

Barrett looks at his friends and a sense of pride washes over him. Nothing will ever make him ashamed of those he fought with.

Walk proud

Vivi and Quina stroll through town with their children. Some people stare, but it doesn't faze the beaming parents.

Norris and Zoah march in a parade, not caring at the obvious differences between them. What they share is more important.

Have a little faith

Ares listens to Joxer trying to convince him the human race isn't all bad. For his lover's sake, the God of War tries to believe.

Hold out

Angel dusts a vampire and Wesley and Gunn have the others on the run. The sight of the stiff British man leaping into Gunn's arms brings forth a bark of laughter. The undead man hopes Xander has things to keep hope alive in his heart. The promise of someday still has power.

We shall be free

Alex and Philip search the Legacy archive without any trace of animosity. Each secure in what their faith and the respect held for the other.

We shall be free

Wolverine helps Remy strip Bobby as the men become a writhing mess on their bed. Despite having powers that could kill, the men trust their partners. Knowing love will always bind them together no matter what.

We shall be free

Wufei becomes a Preventer and works alongside Sally Po. He will make up for the wrong done and correct his mistakes.

Stand straight

Johnny tells the Emperor where to go even as his knees collapse; the fighter will die faithful to what he fought for. He waits for the final blow. When it is not delivered, the battered man looks up to find his friends driving the evil king away.

Have a little faith

Vegeta mocks Goku's stubborn assertions that not everyone is like the money grubbing official. Goten, Gohan, and Trunks watch the debate. The older Saiyan doesn't stand a chance. Goku will never give up on people. Vegeta can talk all he wants, in the end, the tough man's only choice will be surrender.

Walk proud

Ronfar, Leo, and Hiro walk into a town for a rest. Several people question them as they try to eat; the questions are ignored. Some throw insults at the threesome. They are also ignored. These men know their worth and a bunch of close-minded idiots cannot change that.

And we shall be free

Zelgadis, Lina, and Gourry fight over who gets the last piece of chicken as the other patrons look on with smiles. The group finally found a town where all are welcome.

We shall be free

When we forget petty differences in favor of greater truths.

We shall be free

When we let go of hate, fear, and jealousy.

Someday, we will see, not with our eyes, not with anger, but with compassion, hope, and love. On that day, we shall truly be free.
