Darien was about to melt he was so turned on by the site before him. And that was the crazy thing, he'd never thought he'd bee reacting this way to his partner. Sure he'd been with guys, as much time as he'd spent in prison it was almost inevitable. But when he'd first meet Hobbes, his reaction had not been attraction. He'd thought they had teamed him the a loon at first. But he learned that Bobby knew what he was doing and he was very capable of keeping Darien safe and in once piece.
Their current assignment at the beach was the problem. Bobby was dressed in a white tee shirt and white pants, with a red baseball hat. He looked very hot. Darien was wearing black shorts and a white tee shirt himself but he didn't consider his outfit provocative. Not that Bobby's was, it was just the first time that Darien had gotten a good look at the build of his partner. He'd already learned Hobbes was a force to be reckoned with. He was stronger than he looked, but then again, now that Darien could see his build there was plenty of clues to the strength. Bobby's arms were corded with muscle, his shoulders were wide and his chest sculpted.
Darien swallowed, and looked away. He couldn't keep torturing himself this way, he had to do something.
"Ah, Hobbes maybe we should slip up, we could cover more ground that way."
"No can do Partner, the Fat man, wants me to keep my eyes on you. After that last mission I don't think he trusts you much." Bobby glanced at Darien then back at the people walking past.
"He might not trust me but you do don't ya?" Darien gave him the sad eyes look.
"I trust you Partner, but I have to follow orders. Look this shouldn't take that long, either the mook from the CIA shows up soon or he doesn't and they were just yanking our chain."
Darien concentrated his attention on the passing people, but it was early on a week day morning there weren't to many people to keep his attention. Not when there was such a great view to his left. He glanced back at Bobby, he'd put his sun glasses back on, they made him look tough. Darien loved that look. He shifted his position just a little so he could study Bobby's profile, with out him knowing. Hobbes didn't have any idea he was making his younger partner nuts, Darien was sure of that. He'd never met a guy that was stamped, so clearly hetro only. He was just going to have to settle for friendship from the object of his desire.
"I think you were right there Fawkes, looks like this is a bust. I don't think anyone is going to show." Bobby turned around and scanned the walk way in both directions. Then the beach, just to be sure.
Darien was finding it difficult working with Bobby now. Ever since he'd had a good look at what he was missing out on at the beach three days ago.
Everything Bobby did just added fuel to the fire burning in his system. He'd never wanted anyone as much as he did his partner. And he knew, knew there was no possible way that he could ever have him.
"Did you hear anything the Fat man told us?" Bobby was saying as they walked along the hallway.
"A I did, but I figured you'd fill me in." Darien mumbled
"When are you going to start taking this job seriously?" Bobby stopped and grabbed Darien's arm, to gain his attention.
Darien's eyes dropped to Bobby's hand on his arm. It was a nice wide hand, strong, tan, but Bobby was exerting presure on his arm, driving home his point.
"I'm not going to keep risking my life for you everyday if you don't start putting some effort into doing the job." Bobby warned him.
"I'm sorry, I'm just a little distracted this mornig. I'm not sleeping well." Darien stretched the truth a little.
"You should check with the Keeper, maybe she can give you something." Bobby let go of Darien's arm.
"Yeah, I was going to do that now." Darien swallowed and tried to focus. He'd liked having Bobby's hand on his arm. He'd like it way to much.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
"Darien you do look a little tired. I can give you a few sleeping pills, but you can't become dependant on them, they will interfer with the gland." She warned.
"Okay, just give me a few. I'll work on my bio-feedback before going to bed. Maybe that will help me relax more. " Darien nodded.
"You know Partner, I'll bet I know what would help you get to sleep." Bobby was telling Darien on the drive to a meet with a contact.
"Yeah, what?" Darien didn't even glance at Bobby.
"You need to get laid, it's been a while, man has needs. We need to find you a sweet young thing to get busy with."
"One problem with that, I go invisible when I get turned on, remember?"
"Damn, that's right I forgot. We'll just have to find a lady with clearance then. I can look into it when we get back, that new program Eberts loaded in the system can track down anything."
Darien sighed, Bobby was right he did need releif, only he needed it from his partner... with his parnter.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
"Okay now tell me, what should we look for in a potential mate for you there Buddy?" Bobby was sitting behind his computer after they had returned from the meet.
Darien was slouched in his seat on the battered couch in Hobbes office. " I don't think this is a good idea, Bobby."
"Sure it is, you need some companionship, why not put this new program to work for you? Now give me something to go by?"
"Hobbes really I don't think we can just find a lady for me with the Agency computer."
Darien stood up, he was going to have to leave to keep Bobby from questioning him further.
"Fawkes, don't leave. Sit back down and talk to me. I'll lay off if you really don't want me to search the data base." Bobby shut off his screen.
Darien looked at Bobby for the first time since he'd entered the office. Bobby looked concerned for him. He also looked so hot, he'd removed his suit jacket, and rolled back his shirt sleeves, his arms were corded with muscle, they rippled with every move he made. Darien swallowed. Looked away from Bobby's arms, and his glance landed on the open collar of his button down shirt. The strong collum of Bobby's neck was revealed a little more that usual in that shirt. Darien could see the hard rise of the top of Bobby's chest, the dark shadow of the hollow of his throat. He closed his eyes, and tried to stop obsessing.
"Fawkes, you look kind of pale, I think you need to sit down." Bobby moved the chair Darien had just vacated, over behind him and eased his friend down into it.
"Want me to go get Claire?" Bobby asked.
Bobby was worried about his partner. They had only been working together for a few months. But Darien kind of grew on him, he liked him much more than he'd expected to when they had first met.
Darien sat in the chair, and tired to get his mind off of the sight he'd just closed his eyes on. He'd felt a little attraction for Bobby before, but he'd been able to push it off. He knew it wasn't a good idea. Bobby Hobbes didn't give the impresssion he'd be open to a relationship. No the Bobby Hobbes he knew was more likely to punch him out, if he so much as hinted that he was attracted to him.
Then Darien got to know the real Bobby a little more, most of that macho outer appearance was an act. It was a good act, Bobby was capable of beating the crap out of most of the people he needed to. But there were layers to him, lots of layers. He was a romantic, Darien could tell that already. He believed in his heart that there was someone out there meant for everyone. He cared about people. People he didn't even know. The ones he did know, forget about it. They were subjected to twenty questions, fussed over and worried about constantly. He was alot smarter than most people gave him credit for and sneaky when he needed to be. Yeah, there were lots of reasons for him to be attracted to Bobby. But the ones he was having the most trouble with at the moment. The thing that was making his breathing shallow, his heart race and his groin ache.
Bobby was a very compact bundle of muscle. It wasn't obvious at least not in the suit coats he wore all the time, the button down shirts that hide way more than they revealed. Darien had never guessed his partner was so.... built. Man that sounded stupid. But it was the truth, Bobby's chest rippled, his arms bulged with strength, not in the huge body builder way, but more of a hard earned working for a living way. He knew Bobby had mastered a couple of forms of Martial Arts over the years. It showed. Man it really had scuplted what Darien had glimpsed so far into a really nice, powerful body.
Darien swallowed again. "Fawkes, you hear me? Want me to get the Keeper up here?" Bobby asked again.
"No, I'm good, just give me a minute." Darien choked out.
Bobby touched Darien's head, tilting it back so he could check his eyes, looking for the now familiar red eyes that warned he was way past his time for a shot.
His touch. Darien wanted to lean into Bobby's hand, anything to get him more contact. He craved more contact. "Let me check your eyes Fawkes."
Darien opened his eyes, staring up into Bobby's warm brown ones, full of concern for him. He wished they were looking at him for another reason, a more personal reason.
"You're not getting red eyed here Partner, but you don't look normal."
"Hobbes... I think.. ah crap." Darien started to explain his condition, then couldn't.
"I'm going to send for the Keeper, she needs to look you over." He reached for his desk phone. "Yeah, Keep could you come up here, Fawkes is having somekind of spell or something." He hung up the phone, "Hang in there buddy help is on the way."
Darien slumpped in his seat, that was all he needed. Having the Keeper see him in this state she was bound to realize what his problem was.
"Darien what's wrong?" Claire bent over him and checked his monitor, his eyes and then his resperation. "You're color is off, have you over done things already this morning?"
"No, he hasn't quicksilvered all day. We just came back from a meet. Nothing physical." Bobby told her.
"Humm, perhaps we should get him down to the lab." Claire had an idea, but she wasn't going to say anything yet.
"Come on big guy, up you go." Bobby pulled Darien to his feet, and wrapped a strong arm around his waist. That just made Darien worse.
Claire moved ahead of them and opened the door to the lab. Then she waved Bobby off. "I'll check him over, you go on back to your office. I'll let you know."
"He's gone, do you want to tell me, or shall I tell you what I think?" She stood cross armed beside him on the exam table.
"Tell me." Darien shook his head, afraid she knew.
"You're pale, but your heart is racing, your hands are clamy, your breathig shallow. Either you've come down with the strangest flu I've ever head of or you have it bad." She told him.
"Have it bad?" He tried to pretend he didn't understand her.
"Come on Darien, you're attracted to Hobbes. Those are all the signs."
"Ah crap," Darien lay back on the exan table, and tried to pretend this wasn't happening.
"Considering your past experiences it's not that unusual." She told him.
"Yeah for me it might not be unusual, but are you telling me you think there is a chance he might return my those feelings?"
"Well, umm it's hard to say. Hobbes isn't a easy person to read. At least not when he's hiding his feelings. Sometimes you can see in his eyes, how strongly his feelings are about the situation. But he's also very good at closing down.Putting up barriers."
"You think there might be a chance?" Darien sat up and looked very hopeful.
"I didn't say that, some things are very black and white with Hobbes. Honor, country, duty, trust. But he's been around, it's possible he has experienced different cultures attitudes towards male bonding." Claire was trying to tell Darien that there was a possibility with out coming out and telling him what she'd learned from Hobbes' personal file.
"Male bonding, that's one way of putting it." Darien laughed.
Bobby returned to his office. But he was thinking, Fawkes had been about to tell him something. Then he'd clammed up. Bobby wondered what his partner had been about to say. Fawkes was so hard to read some times, and others it was like they were on the same wave length. Bobby had never connected with a partner so easily, there was usually a breaking in period. Not that he compleatly trusted Fawkes yet, but there was potential. But they had clicked in other ways, they both saw the irony in things the same. They agreed on where to eat, where to hang out more than they didn't. Yeah he liked Fawkes, Darien.
But he was puzzled by his most recent behavior. It had all started when Bobby had suggested they find Darien a lady friend. Could Fawkes have issues about women he didn't know about? Maybe pushing him into finding someone to meet his needs had been a bad idea.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
" I think perhaps you should take the rest of the day off. You need some space and time to cool off and get things into perspective." Claire suggested.
"I'd love to take the day off, but we have a new case, and I have to sneak into a office building later and get the evidence on the bad guys." Darien told her.
"Fine, but you need to either tell him. Or get past this, you can't put your system through this stress on top of the stress the gland is already putting on you."
"Okay, I'll figure it out. Thanks." Darien climbed down from the exam table and headed for the bathroom. He splashed some cold water on his face. What he really needed was a cold shower. But the Agency didn't have showers.
"You feeling better Fawkes?" Bobby looked up from his desk, when the door opened.
"Yeah, just a little over heated or something. The Keeper told me to drink more fluids and stop wearing so much retro clothes. They don't let the body breath or something." Darien made up a excuse.
"Great then lets go find some lunch, then we have to steak out that office building." Bobby shut down his computer and grabbed his suit coat.
Darien stared, he couldn't help himself. When Bobby stretched to grab his coat off the other chair it pulled open is shirt, the view of his chest was tantalizing.
"You ready?"
"Yeah, sure let's go." Darien answered, but he wasn't looking forward to the torture he was about to endure. Spending sevearl hours in a hot van, with Bobby sitting not three feet from him.
"What do you want for lunch?" Bobby asked, as he pulled the van out into the traffic.
"You pick, I'm not in the mood for anything special." Darien said, then thought, nothing you eat that is. I'm in the mood for some long, slow, mind blowing sex with my partner. "It's hotter today then usual for this time of year, maybe we should run by your place and get you into a tee shirt or something." Bobby offered.
"No, I'm good." Darien didn't even want to think about Bobby being in his place while he hunted down a clean shirt.
"Okay, how about the sub shop for lunch?"
"Fine, sounds good." Darien just answered. He was having visions of Bobby on the beach again. He'd been wearing only a white tee shirt, no sleeves, he'd looked so virile. Darien's mouth was going dry again just remembering. It had been a shock to him, that first sight of his partner, in casual clothes. Revealing casual clothes.
"Fawkes, we're here come on." Bobby had parked the van and gone towards the door to the shop before noticing his partner wasn't with him.
"Yeah, right." Darien climbed out of the van and sighed, he really needed to get a grip.
Bobby was inside making an order, Darien looked over the choices and got a turkey sub with everything, a soda and chips.
"Let's eat outside, there's a little bit of a breeze coming off the ocean." Bobby suggested He was carrying his own meal, roast beef sub with slaw and coffee.
They ate in silence for a few minutes. The wind was nice, they had to keep the napkins from blowing away by putting them under the drinks. Bobby was sitting in his usual spot, facing out, towards any possible threat. Darien was across from him, also facing out but only so he could stay out of the sun.
Darien was managing to keep his mind off his obsession for the time being. He was concentrating on eating.
"How come you didn't get a bigger sandwich?" Bobby asked between bites.
" I'm not that hungry," Darien shrugged.
"That's a first." Bobby laughed.
Bobby sat back and let this settle while Darien finished. He usually was the one who finished eating last. Bobby stretched lifting his arms up over his head, then back to the side, rolling his shoulders. "It's going to be a long time sitting in the van. This is nice, freash air and sunshine."
Darien nodded, knowing if he looked over at Bobby at that crituial moment he was going to be staring. He'd seen his partner stretching out of the corner of his eye, but had forced himself not to look.
"Ah, feels good." Bobby made one last streching motion and groaned.
That did it, Darien glanced over at his partner, and got an eye full. What with the wind blowing briskly, Bobby's recent stretching motions, his shirt was gapping open even more than before. Darien stopped chewing and swallowed, his mouth went dry. The strong collum of Bobby's throat, the top portion of his chest, his relaxed posture they all were making Darien want things to be different between them.
Darien's mouth went dry even as he was chewing. He swallowed, staring at Bobby. He felt warmth in his groin, if he didn't prevent it he was going to become aroused.
"Yeah, it's going to be a long day. This is nice, getting some fresh air and sun." Bobby finished his streching, and reached for his coffee cup. "I'll be right back, going to get a refil." He stood and strolled back inside the deli. Darien, grabbed up his soda and drank half of the cup full in three big gulps. He groaned and stood up, move around get you mind off what you saw.
What he'd seen. Oh man. He'd never have thought just the sight of a nice chest would make him horny. Nice, well really nice, all sculpted with just a little accent hair. Bobby's chest was as tan as his throat, he must find time to lay out every once and a while. Darien paced in front of the deli, he had to get his mind off his partner.
"Some thin' the matter there Fawkes?" Bobby was back with his refil already.
Darien jumped at the sound of his voice behind him. "No, no. Ah you ready, let's go." Darien grabbed up the rest of his meal and threw it in the trash can. He did take the soda with him.
"Yeah, I guess no sence in prolonging it." Bobby fished the van key out of his pocket and headed for the van.
Darien followed, keeping his eyes on the sidewalk. They drove to the stake out and met up with the other agents that were going to be watching the other side of the building.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Darien was very quiet for the first hour, he was watching the building and surroundings and running his bio feedback techniques through his mind at the same time he was afraid to interact with Bobby. He didn't want to imbarass himself.
"Man we've only been here a little over an hour, feels like ten." Bobby shifted in his seat. "So let me ask you something Partner, before when we were in my office what was that? Did the Keeper figure out what was wrong?"
Darien exhaled and looked over at Bobby. It was bound to happen sooner or later. "Ah, yeah she knew what was wrong, but there wasn't much she could do to help me."
"No, the Keep is pretty smart she didn't have some medication or something to give you?"
"No."
"You going to tell me what was wrong?" Bobby turned to look at Darien.
"Only if I have to." Daren sighed again. He really didn't want to confess his feelings for Bobby especially there in the van.
"Come on Fawkes if there is something I should know new about your condition..."
"Let me ask you something first, ...."
"Okay what do you want to know?" Bobby didn't mind questions, at least not from his parnter.
"We've known each other what six, eight months now. Have you noticed anything about me that might have surprised you a little?" Darien said trying to hint at the fact that he went both ways and did that fact bother Bobby.
"You mean other than your thief background?"
"Yeah, something they didn't put in my file." Darien was pretty sure Claire had known all along he wasn't sure if the Official knew.
"I don't know Fawkes, like what?" Bobby was puzzled by this whole line of talk.
Darien looked deep into Bobby's eyes, exhaled, and was about to confess. When Bobby realized what Darien was implying, he'd noticed at the beginning of their partnership that Darien was a little different from all of his previous partner. The banter they shared was edgyer for one thing. But he had dismissed the other vibe he'd picked up on once or twice as him being off his game a little. Maybe that was why Darien had gotten bothered in his office that morning, the topic was touchy.
"It is true then, you swing both ways?" Bobby said as matter of factly as he could. He'd known gay guys before, hell he'd even been with one of them when he was younger. He didn't care so long as you did you job.
"Yeah, does that freak you out?" Darien swallowed and hoped like crazy it didn't.
"Why should that bother me? It's not like you're hitting on me or something."
Darien continued to look into Bobby's eyes. Maybe now wasn't the time for him to tell Bobby everything. But Bobby broke the eye contact and sat back in his seat, looking out the window and said very softly, like almost under his breath.
"I mean why would you be interested in an old beat up guy like me, when there are all kinds of young, hot hunks out there to hook up with."
"Bobby,"
"Yeah?"
"I am interested in you, that's the problem because I know you would never be interested in me." Darien said, his eyes closed his heart in his throat.
"Yeah, right I believe that, what could you possibably want with me Fawkes? This is one of your gags isn't it? You're playing me here, just to see how far you can get with this bull shit." Bobby grabbed the door handle of the van and was about to climb out when he remembered he couldn't leave, he was working and had to keep a low profile.
"No, it's not...Hobbes really why would I pretend any of what I just said? Why do you think so little of yourself? You have all kinds of success with the ladies from what I've seen, why is it so hard to believe that I would want you?"
"Because look at you,... " Bobby stammered a second, "You're all young and tall, and the hair. Not to mention that build and those bed room eyes, you are a piece of work my friend and I'm ... I'm just a little guy from Long Island that knows when he's out of his league."
"Don't say that, Hobbes, don't put yourself down like that." Darien hurt when he heard Bobby refer to himself in that manner.
"It's the truth." Bobby growled.
"It's not," Darien had, had enough he reach a long arm over and turned Bobby's head towards him. Their first kiss was very emotional, quick and earth shattering. Bobby didn't fight him, but Darien didn't make it last more than a few seconds either.
"Fawkes if you're playing games here I swear I'll..." Darien smiled and moved out of his seat so he could get closer, he half knelt, half bent and kissed Bobby a second time, this time Bobby responded even more, and he felt strong hands on his shoulder and one behind his head. Man Hobbes kissed good, so good. Darien was the one out of breath when the second kiss ended. He blinked at Bobby, and swallowed. "Whoa,"
"I don't play games Darien, if you don't mean this then stop it right here, right now."
"I mean it Bobby I want you so much. I ache to be with you. I can't sleep because all I do is dream about us together."
"Then come here." Bobby pulled his partner back to him for another passion filled kiss.
"It's going down guys, the truck just pulled up to the back of the building." The radio cracked to life just as they were lip locked.
Bobby ended the kiss. "We have to go, but this is far from finished."
"I know." Darien smiled, then let the quicksilver cover him as he exited the van.
