"Oh, Ruh," Tao said, covering his nose with his hand, and trying to stagger out of the stench-of-death zone.
Ruh lay on his side, the tip of his striped orange tail slapping gently against the ground. He raised his head to see what the commotion was about. It was always something with that tall, dark-haired human that meowed at Dar all the time, like a lost tiger cub. Silence had become a rare bird - that flew away in terror whenever that constantly meowing Eiron was around. Ruh lowered his head, treasuring the few moments of silence that followed.
Dar sat at the other side of the Sanctuary's small pond, polishing his staff with long slow strokes, to a glossy, ivory-like luster.
"You should know better than to rub Ruh's tummy after he just ate," Dar said, uttering each word with sage-like advice, learned from years of living in the wilds around flatulant animals.
Tao was bent over, his arms resting on his thighs, taking long deep breaths. He massaged his nostrils, trying to bring back his sense of smell.
"That'll singe the hairs in your nose," Tao said, his face flushed.
Dar lowered his head, trying to hide a growing, mischievious smile at Tao's turn of bad luck.
